  • @atlan61 In an experimental environment, they used techniques to make people feel lonely, and as a consequence it suppressed the social skills of the individual.

  • expermental manipulation?

  • I love hearing this guy talk about this subject. He makes so many good points. We are not designed to be lone wolves.

  • being mean to ppl certainly isn't productive. but being nice and kind doesn't necessarely result in ppl liking too much either. if you're boring noone cares. that makes u just as lonely. being kind can be done easily. being interesting can't...

  • what a genius; i feel so lonely but frmo hearing him i realize what he says about why im lonely; all the perceptions and things... man..

  • Good to know that there has been damage done to my body, probably long-term which will likely result in less life span etc.. as I'm still v.lonely and often feel 'broken hearted' still..! the 1 time I had a g/friend (for only 3 months), my loneliness disappeared, a lifeline I reckon that has never appeared again unfortunately..! I am very courageous and will fight this to the end with no fear in my heart..tho loneliness still in my 'stomach' (tho to a poss. early grave!)

  • had severe depression, social anxiety and extreme loneliness for the first 30 yrs of my life, since childhood/teens...My immune system/health broke down at 22 & I ended up with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyalgia...even though I've made huge progress, & im largley improved with the CFS/fibromyalgia, I lost the first 30 yrs of my life, & lost the confidence building in dealing with getting a girlfriend etc.. now at 36 rarely if ever had a g/friend and loneliness still eats me up a great deal

  • Excellent short talk; good points and a good summary of the book.
