This turtle laid her eggs right in our suburban backyard. She dug away the mulch and the dirt in a shady spot of the garden.

  • I don't know. Sorry. There are several websites that I have seen with good Eastern Box Turtle info.

  • she is working so hard, the things we women do for our children!!! I found a box turtle digging a nest near my veggie garden and I was so excited, in 3 months her eggs will hatch and like you I will watch but allow the wee ones to remain wild and free.

  • I have a box turtle in my veggie garden building a nest, I want to help her but I do not know if she will lay her eggs and walk away or will she stay to watch over the eggs, what did this one do??? I live in coastal North Carolina and we are very dry this spring, thank you for anything you can share.

  • @11wormbig

I have never seen them again and I like to think that they are off living in the woods!

  • What a nice thing for you to do -- make sure the hatchings were safe, and then set them free. Good job.
