Amazing car, in pristine condition! Notice the three tone color combination and the color matched interior. The Cross Country started life as a small wagon, Rambler American sized..but evolved into this sizeable car! Very practical, very stylish! The Ambassador was the top of the line, with an OHV V8.

  • Hello Jack. I'm still here! I think it is fair to say that this car has a bold frontal treatment. I do like the styling and colour scheme all around but the grille isn't pretty to my eyes. Someone else already pointed out that it has new front seat belts which it wouldn't have had when built. I personally think the upholstery is an accurate re-trim to the original pattern. It is hard to see that the original covers would look this good after so many years.

  • @rx6180 Hey, Mick! Glad you're still here! I do like the front end of the car...it took a little getting used to at introduction, but they were following a styling trend that the big Nashes had before their demise in 1956. I'd say that was original pattern, too..but it actually could be original. I have a feeling that reupholster fabrics are not very available for this car...and some of these cars may actually be quite low mileage. That usually happens with quite elderly owners! Thx! :)Jack

  • My grandfather had a 61 AMC Rambler Ambassador series 60 with AC. Never would run it no madder how hot it was. Said it hurt his bones. But he was an AMC guy. Looks like they put modern seat belts in this one.

  • @dad23boys Hey, Dennis! That's interesting about the AC and your grandad. He may have had something there...I was reading recently that there are people who are actually allergic to the cold. I do believe those seatbelts weren't original equipment too! Thanks!

    :) Jack

  • I took a second look at the shift quadrant and it sort of looks like this might have GM’s Hydramatic. I think some time in 56 or 57 AMC started shifting over to Borg-Warner’s automatic. Anyway this certainly a well presented family hauler. AMC had a lot of firsts and I think they were first with a roll down tailgate window. Also in 57 the Rambler Rebel was the fastest accelerating sedan to 60; even faster than a 300C.

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! It puzzled me too..I checked and the 57 Ambassador still had HydraMatic, but the Rambler's automatic wasn't specified. It may have been a running change that year..out 58 had the Borg-Warner transmission. Interesting fact about the Rebel...too bad it didn't draw more people into the showroom! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @JesseAndMike Hey, guys! Nash carried over the grille-headlight combination to its Rambler line. It definitely was a different and awesome look! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Looks like it's in great shape! :D The grill and lights look different, but awesome! :)

  • @nightiscoming2 Our 58 Cross Country had air, and it had vents on the top of the dash on both sides...Rambler always was a little different with their terminology! The Bug was a cool car too...your aunt had good taste! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @Taranau Wow! I remember Studebaker had a version of their wagon with the movable section of roof at the back end of the car. Very interesting..they were definitely trying to make cars more usable for all purposes. I remember a Japanese car too of more modern vintage that had a removable top and rear section. Thanks! :) Jack
