Join John Priscu and team as - for the first time ever - American researchers stay out in the field for an extended research season in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, as the Antarctic summer of 24/7 days begins to turn into 24/7 night. John and colleagues explain why these valleys and their microbial ecosystem are so unique, and why it's worth the risk and discomfort to stay on so late, sampling lakes in temperatures more than 40 degrees below. This video shows some of the amazing Dry Valley landscapes in rare low-light conditions.

  • John Priscu is my uncle

  • At 19th century scientist told that antarctica is land with worste fauna and flora diversity on the world today when we grab microscopes, electronmicroscopes and so on we can say that antarctica have richer fauna and flora then red sea! Its really exciting how the worlds algea farm grow at South and Noth Pole in the most extreme enviroment on the world where sea temprature drop below -2C and where space radion is extremly high.

  • Absolutely majestic. If there is one thing i do before I die, I simply must see the Antarctic. Anyone need a geologist/geophysicist down there...I am also a teacher and I can see limitless possibilities of the experience.
