  • I got to walk through it a few months ago

  • Howmany crewmen were WIA & KIA, flying in her?

  • @sseklof my dad was stationed in watton englang 1944-45 25 bomb group he was a tin knocker loosely translates to ground crew mechanic he told me them 17`s would come back all shot to hell some even running on only one engine they would patch up the holes change out any engines that were not running with new ones change oil on remaining engines refuel them rearm them new crew and send em back to germany

  • flys over my house twice a year

  • @mikelsok - Battle damage, along with wear and tear. Hauling thousands of pounds of bombs on very long missions of many hours at high altitude is very stressful on the engines.

  • Very interested in this, 'Why 21 Engine changes'???, this hit me straight away, 21, 21, 21, why was this?

  • Awesome ride!! I rode Her in 2008 in St. Augustine!!!!

  • @sseklof I had the very same sense; not really "stomach churning," really, just a rather eerie feeling of "deja vu," as if I had experienced it before. Having spent the first half of my life as the son of a professional pilot, this was easy to shrug off at the time; now, it gives me pause.

And, Hell yeah...it was an AWESOME ride!

  • If the B17 is about 700 to go up in, how much would that F 16 be to fly in?, about 5000. I noticed a few swimming pools, is that is Southern California?

  • @deancook652 My Dad, too, was a B-17 pilot, 15th AF in Foggia, Italy. I had a very eerie feeling finally getting to climb inside a B-17. Made my stomach turn a little actually - just thinking of the immense struggles experienced by the air crews. I didn't get fly in it though. Must be an awesome ride!
