I met with Joe Duarte and Diego Sanchez from Ultimate Fighter in San Diego in April of 2009. They allowed me to demonstrate some Qin Na (joint submission techniques) to them in their training gym in San Diego. These techniques are an integral part of Taijiquan (tai chi). I learned Qin Na from Qinrong Yu. I learned Taijiquan from Arthur Lee Starling.

  • I know those wrist grabs. I learned it at Oom Yung Doe back in Seattle when they had a school there. It's moved to Bellevue, but that technique REALLY works.

The first part of training was learning how to strengthen your body enough to take the punishment of receiving those holds. It's for real. My thumb is still messed up after 2yrs of taking a demonstration hold. Those grabs can be very dangerous.

  • @therealshozen Exactly. jBeing able to receive the technique is just as important as using the technique. When I met my Qin Na teacher he fubared my right wrist so bad I went from being able to do 88 pushups to doing 1. I could not bend my wrist with weight on it for about a year and a half. It was worth it. I learned from a very talented Qin Na expert and have no regrets. YOu would see more of these locks in the UFC if they didn't have to wear those gloves.

  • BRING DIEGO BACK TO SAN DIEGO!!!

Yea, it was great to meet Joe and Diego. My friend was their chiropractor at the time. He had demo'd some joint locks to Diego and Diego asked where he learned the moves. My friend gave him my name and Diego was kind enough to pay for my flight down to San Diego to hang out with him and Joe Duarte for four days. I stayed in the house where Joe Duarte lived. They were both very cool dudes. We spent one morning on the beach with me showing them joint locks. It was great.

  • @hakaka1 How was the experience with diego and joe duarte? both are great fighters and diego is one of my favorite.

  • @jjhollywood949 Thanks for the heads up. His family is in New Mexico so I'm not surprised that's where he ended up.

  • @hakaka1 yeah he went back to New Mexico from what it says in the mma news. he is training with back with greg jackson.

I haven't talked to Diego since last year. Did he leave San Diego?

  • Im not a fighter but I know thats not true. At least he left guam and is fighting out in the states, just like he said. It's easy to be a big fish in a little pond like on guam, but try and go out to the states and be a little tad pole in the ocean, not that many figthers doing that here. He gets much credit for that, plus he probably has a killer network already.

  • Joe, can't beat the TOP 155 fighter's On guam.. but he's representing...
