A historical documentary showcasing 40 years of music at the venue known as The Catalyst, in Santa Cruz California. From it's incarnation beginning in the early 1960's as a bohemian coffee house to the present day world renowned music venue . This is not a journey of where are these bands today... but rather an insider's view to what is a venue. Why does this place command such respect, accolades from the cast of musicians, the clubs' crew, audience, the owner Randall Kane and it's rich historic musical presence? This includes interviews or performances by bands such as the Doobie Brothers, Neil Young, Greg Kihn, David Lindley (Jackson Browne), Huey Lewis and the News, The Tubes, John Mayall, Ry Cooder, Patti Smith and many more. This unusual point of view gives the viewer an 'all access pass' to an inside track behind the scenes of a venue heard from the back line of professional cast and crew that was to become the legacy of the Catalyst. How long is the full documentary? Is there one? That would be cool! I have been to tons of shows there starting in the late 70's. I saw Greg Kihn there sooo many times- insane! Great times!

WOW! When I first came to Santa Cruz I remember the old-timers talking about the original (Palomar) Catalyst, so I walked up Pacific to see the new Catalyst during the final phases of its conversion from a bowling alley. Didn't know then that I'd eventually end up working with Mike Sheehan mixing monitors in exchange for drinks, dinner and doobies... Can't wait to see this in general release! Make sure it gets submitted to NetFlix!

Michael Sheehan got sick of me hanging out over his shoulder, but it was the best spot in the house!! It WAS a church..of sorts. Didn't know Ben was Randalls son.Place sucks now.. and so it goes. RIP Randall.
