This is a video i created from various models and assemblies i have made during the last year in SolidWorks.
Unfortunately, only the two first sections are rendered using Photoworks. The amount of components in the last two assemblies forced me to render using the standard Solidworks buffer. As most users of pre 2010 SolidWorks users are aware, certain memory issues cripple any form of uhm.. artistic freedom whatsoever. Especially when it comes to complex geometry or large assemblies in combination with Photoworks. Throw a substandard computer in there and you will be living in a world of annoyance.

99% of all models are drawn from scratch by me, or heavily modified to be compatible (like when converting from IGS or STP/STEP, you usually need to fix this and that) with parts modelled from the ground up in Solidworks. The only untouched component is the electric motor in the last part of the video.

Anyway, The first, third and fourth sections contain work where i am experimenting a bit with the camera functionality in Solidworks. I guess that is kind of obvious from the beginning really. It is quite hard to make any sense of the path of your camera and/or collapsing components when SolidWorks only works, in a VERY laggy way, for about 5 minutes at a time, but i think i pulled through ok. Everything is rendered in 1280x720.

-The first clip is a typical hydraulic manifold with various machined cavities for fitting cartridge valves and such (these are to be modeled and added later by the way..). The path of the camera takes the viewer on a tour from pressure port P, to exit/work/function port X4.
-the second clip is a collapse of a triple manifold (different functionality for each section for example), fitted with a few CETOP3 valves + coils and fasteners.
-Third we have a collapse of a modular valve pack using subplates, CETOP3 valves and stackable flow/pressure control valves. All (or at least a s%&tload of) fasteners and fittings included.
-fourth, one can see a collapse of a HPU (some parts removed to make SolidWorks happy) with the modular valve from section 3 fitted.

The tune, which i think is quite nice, is made by Darenager, and is called Summer in Detroit (Live Mix).

Thanks for letting me borrow your tune, Daren :)

  • Well for me, working on a (now) sub-standard laptop (and the slow desktop in my last job), the biggest challenge is dealing with all of the bugs and memory limitations hampering your progress. Mostly it is a test in patience i guess. Other than that, i guess it would take about a year (or half a year maybe) with steady work with Solidworks to get to know everything as i do. However, i have been working with Solidworks on and off since 2004, and dealing with all the various changes helps a lot :)

  • Well done ! I'm aprouving this video response for shure. :)

  • @KAPORALDANGER

hey thanks. coming from someone with animations as nice as yours, thats really cool :)

I am switching to Inventor my self in a little while, so guess i'll "steal" some inspiration from you :)

  • Good animation

  • @ZiouaneFarid thanks :)

  • Nice job, looks pretty slick to me!

  • @darenager thanks :)

Remember, it's my first one! hehe

oh, and it sounds pretty slick aswell :P
