On Sunday, April 18, six area celebrities will take the ride of their life. The Midwest Horse Fair® is playing host to Ariat Jumping with the Stars!, an event that pairs Wisconsin hunter/jumper trainers with local celebrities. Along with showing off their horsemanship skills, these celebrities will be helping to raise money for the American Family Childrens Hospital.

As a way to further the benefits of this friendly Jumping with the Stars! competition, there is a celebrity challenge that will run from now until the event. The celebrity who raises the most money for the American Family Childrens Hospital will have an additional $5,000 donated to the hospital by the Midwest Horse Fair® in the name of the winner.

The Ariat Jumping with the Stars! has attracted an incredible roster of competitors including Madisons own Olympic runner, Suzy Favor Hamilton, who will train with Pamela Prince from Meinpferde Farm. Connie Kellie from the Connie and Fish morning show on WZEE-FM (104.1) and The Brew (97.3) in Milwaukee will train with Kate Bomgaars Reuter. Evening anchor, Leigh Mills from WMTV NBC 15 in Madison is paired with Stephanie Veloff Histed from Timeless Farm. Kidd OShea is the go anywhere, do anything co-host of Kidd and Elizabeth in the Morning on 99.1 WMYX Milwaukee. He will train with Kathleen Caya from Cheska Farm in Waukesha. John Flint from the John and Tammy Show on 96.3 Star Country will head over to the Hoofers Equestrian Center to train with Andrea Bill. And, Olympic speedskater Casey FitzRandolph will be riding with trainer Carrie Zander from Prairie Sun Stables The host for all the fun and excitement is horse enthusiast, George Mallet from Todays TMJ4 in Milwaukee with assistance from Robin Ellis & Tammy Lee from Star Country.

These beginner rider celebrities have started taking riding lessons with their trainers. Between now and the Ariat Jumping with the Stars! event on April 18, they will learn how to walk, trot, canter and jump a course of fences. The participants will be looking their best in apparel and boots for schooling and competition from title sponsor, Ariat.
On Sunday, April 18, at 12:30 p.m. during the Midwest Horse Fair®, the celebrities will demonstrate their abilities over a course of jumps. A panel of judges comprised of celebrity and horse professionals will comment on these celebrity rides and score the teams. Audience members will have the opportunity text vote on their cell phones. The winning trainer/celebrity team will walk away with a trophy, an Arc de Triomphe bridle, other prizes, and bragging rights.

The event benefits American Family Childrens Hospital, a comprehensive pediatric medical and surgical center featuring nationally recognized pediatric specialists in fields from cardiology to cancer. With roots dating back to 1920, the current American Family Childrens Hospital opened in 2007 in Madison as a state-of-the-art facility, and continues to win widespread praise for the warm, soothing atmosphere that enhances a childs ability to heal.

Each celebrity/trainer team has been challenged to see who can raise the most money for the American Family Childrens Hospital between now and the Jumping with the Stars! event on April 18. The Midwest Horse Fair® will donate $5,000 to the Patient and Family Fund at the American Family Childrens Hospital in the name of the winner. This fund ensures that all children receive world-class care whether at a clinic appointment or during a several month hospital stay. Donations to the Patient and Family Fund guarantees that each patient receives the highest quality care through various programs, including the Family Resource Center, Tylers Place, Positive Image Center, and Kohls Safety Center. This fund also supports research and provides families with housing, meals, transportation and emergency assistance. For example, more than 13,000 meals were provided in 2007 to patient families through this fund.

While this event will be fun for all, the benefits will go to help support the health and wellbeing of many children and their families in the Midwest. Donations in your favorite celebrities name can be made in the dropboxes at each trainers facility, at the Midwest Horse Fair® in the Kids Korral or online at www. our.uwhealth.org/jumping . Announcements will be made on the day of the event as to who is the highest fundraiser.
