2005 BMW X5 4.4i

This has a 4.4L V8 making 315 HP while paired to a 6 Speed Auto. So this is a pretty decent combo.

I have never been much a fan of X5's of this generation. The smallest road imperfection is made into a huge deal so the ride can become choppy. I find that the vertical travel of the rear suspension is very short as the rear makes this hoppy or Jouncy feeling which is very uncomfortable. The Seats are very hard & more so in the back seat, so these can become very tiresome on long drives.

If you like X5's, best go for the V8 version.

I have driven dozens of 2001-2006 X5 3.0i's. The 3.0i is one of BMW's best engines but it's too underpowered to propel this small but heavy SUV. The 5 Speed Auto used in the 3.0i hasn't proven too reliable and it is very clumsy. Sometimes shifts can be smooth, Hard, Abrupt, it's just unpredictable.

  • I going to get my first car and this guy is selling a 2001 BMW x5 v8 4.4i. It has 140000 highway miles, and it's in good condition. His selling it for 2850 $ and I was wondering if I should get it

  • @alexpain100 I'd by a tad hesitant if I were you... Need to watch out with the that 4.4 & the tranny as both weren't the best in the early years. The transfer case is another concern as they are all AWD. If its something you absolutely love, have a mechanic check it out before b4 anything & be shown a car fax so you know prior history ( it could have salvage history or could've been involved in an accident for example )... And seeing how many owners owned it is important too.

  • Mr. Techdude, would you happen to know if the 3-liter X5 has an I-6 or a V6? We've had the V8 for so long, forgot from when we looked at the 3.0, but decided to get the 4.4.

  • @RandomShow585

3-Liter X5 uses an I-6 ( Inline 6 Cylinder ) You'll also know that by seeing the emblems on the fenders which say 3.0i. ( the i stands for inline ). And to my knowledge, BMW doesn't make V6.

It's a great engine but it was just it's too weak of an engine to move these heavy X5's. You did good going for the V8.

  • @Intechdude300 Our X5's decal above the signal light between the wheel and door says 4.4i. What does the "i" mean in this predicament? 4.4 = Inline? No, i have seen under the hood 4 cyl's on each side. BMW was confusing with their emblems.

  • @RandomShow585

Never mind about the ( i ). Totally forgot they did that to both versions . You've got a V8 so dont bother looking LOL. BMW lettering sometimes is confusing.

  • i laughed at that Tiny Subwoofer...seems out of place in a Large vehicle

  • Very badly filmed. sorry about that

  • @RandomShow585 It stands for fuel injection. Look on their website and select a model, then at the botton, in grey text, it will say, "i signifies for fuel injection."

  • the 1999-2006 BMW X5 was assembled in

    Greer, South Carolina, United States

    Toluca, Mexico

  • @Intechdude300

    no its not.

the "i" is for gasoline and "d" is for diesel.

They do this to distinct cars in Europe

  • @Trondheim18 BMW does sell them, as I have black rims. Black on black is the best look for an x5 :)
