England's Def Leppard are one of the most successful hard rock bands of all time. The band, whose career was plagued by death and tragedy, released their most successful record, HYSTERIA, in 1987. A worldwide phenomenon, the record sold more than 17 million copies and elevated the band to notoriety. In this episode of the CLASSIC ALBUMS series, the surviving members of Def Leppard discuss the making of HYSTERIA as they sort through and explain the original multi-track tapes. In addition, some impromptu acoustic performances and musical demonstrations further dissect this classic album.

  • whats the name of the song at 1:48?

  • Not sure, but to me it sounds like it could be an early demo version of Women from Hysteria.

  • @abig1403 What are you talking about? Joe can definitely sing live. That footage shown was when he was having voice troubles yet he can still sing great.

  • why wouldn't mutt produce the album at the start of the project?

  • congrulations you group

  • abig1403 - Def Leppard was and still is the best band ever.

  • 3:30 What guitar is that?

  • @abig1403 there are alot of rock and metal singers that can't sing but are still great anyway.

  • @renehache It's the solo from Animal, but a bit different. It might be an early version.

  • Good to see Joe Elliot still can't sing! Seriously, this was a great, great album, even though it was hugely over-produced. Saw them at Castle Donnington 1986 and in London on the Hysteria tour when they were blown away by Tesla (in my opinion!).

Sad for DL that, in the UK, we've never forgiven them for "selling out" to the US, where, I'm told, they are universally worshipped.

  • @1quisslover Sounds like the solo for Animal

  • @1quisslover it's the guitar track of Animal isolated, with no drums or any instruments except the guitar. It's just playing the solo part of the track.
