  • Thank you exonval1234, there are a few errors in that clip that people have pointed out. Thanks for the advice, I have actually got some thread cutting lube (to replace my WD40).

    Thanks again.

  • Good video! and Excellent choice of music! I'm still learning how to operate my lathe But I have two questions, for a piece that long shouldn't the end of the work be supported? Also is there a chance of producing errors when changing the direction of the lead screw to reverse the carriage? I ask because on my 80 year old star lathe I have to rotate the spindle about 10 degrees by hand for the reverse gears to mesh.

    Thanks again for the video!

  • @inspiron43 you're dead right about the length of the workpeice. It should be supported! However, the halfnut is never disengaged on the backstroke so there is never misalignment from one cut to the other.

    Thanks.

  • Hi I have to agree with ModularMadMan, your compound slide is set to 60degrees, you will probably have two lines set at 90degrees apart under your compound slide to which you can set the angle, you may have set it to the front one at 29/30degrees and you should have set it to the side one. If you don't have two lines you have to count back 29/30degrees from 90degrees when the compound slide is in the same position as the cross slide. Compound slide is then parallel to trailing edge of tip.

  • Support with a center, with a carbide tipped tool you don't have to set your compound slide to 30 degs(thats real old school hss), it will handle a straight cut and you can take 30 thou on your first pass reduce your cuts as you get closer to depth speed it up if you can handle it and use screw cutting lube. Just a tip if you want to speed things up!

  • longer than 3 times the Diameter, centre drill it and shove a revolving centre up its arse dude!

  • What settings for Feeds & Speeds did you set on your Lathe? I have the Triumph 2000 also and haven't learnt how to cut threads on it yet. Any advice would be great. I'm currently reading the manual but some expert advice is most welcome :-)

  • You did good work! But why You use 60RPM speed for ???
