@Olumvolum our high school played this and i think we did pretty well even tho we didnt go as fast as the pro brass band
-
bad time and feel, Intonation is not there sorry
-
I'm playing this on Euphonium with my uni wind orchestra - my part is a killer, but apparently the Euphonium part in the brass band arrangement is a crapload harder. I've played the brass band arrangement as well, but on a BBb tuba. Gotta love Phillip Sparke
-
1st clarinet when i was 14, and all the brass has 16th note runs too fyi
-
What instrument do you play? Because if you're in the brass section and don't have all the super fast sixteenth note runs, then maybe this piece just isn't as difficult for you as it is for woodwind players...
-
uhh, not really, i played this freshmen year of high school and got unanimous superiors at every festival
-
This song is so hard to play! But they do a great job of it, pity the recording wasn't any better.
-
there are 3 parts to this song. maybe you played a different part, this is the finale.
-
They are not bad but just that the difficult running passages are messy and the pass of notes from one section to another are not connected... Good job but the best rendition and almost perfect rendition of 'Year of the Dragon' I've ever heard is still by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra! They are simply fantastically flawless!
-
They're good, but it's just that the tape isn't very good.
-
That doesn't affect the standard of performance... Good ensemble, and rhythm, will come across no matter what the microphone!!
-
i wish i had the recording of them playing this in carnegie hall...they nailed it to the wall.
-
Mwahaha, TYWO is fun...
-
I'm not in the actual TYWO, but i'm in the middle level band Symphonic Winds. The first concert was sick though, Allen Vizzutti was amazing.
-
You are aware the microphone is piece of shit retard...
-
this is an orchestration of the actual piece, the actual piece is from Year of the Dragon, by Philip Sparke, which is written for Brass Band
-
ahh i almost played with TYWO this year :( im not worthy...
-
yea, its an incredible piece... I played it back in april with the Australian youth orchestra... eupho part is insane
-
one of the best pieces ever written. not a amazing peformance. a bit more dynamics then we're talking ;-) a bit messy at times when the clarinets play alone. and i'm not too found of the french horns. but by all means this is a horribly hard piece to play.
-
Very nice performance of a very hard piece.
Personally prefer the Original Brass Band Version over the concert band arrangement, has just a little more magic personally, but still, really really exciting and gets the blood pumping and makes the hair stand up!:D
-
Very good, but I think the percussion are far too loud, especially the bells in the middle duets. Finger work is a bit messy, but our band played this so I know how hard it is! Great finnish though.
-
As I said for the other YOTD video, I didn't know these existed! I was so surprized when it came up in related videos. Great recording :)
Our band has tried to play this but it´s to hard. Thats probably because all of us are under 18 years old.
