Carlo Munier must be considered as one of Italy's greatest mandolinists ever. He was born in Naples on July 15, 1859 and already at a very early age recognized as mandolin virtuoso of the highest rank. Besides his activities as a performer he was highly regarded as a teacher and composer as well. Many compositions of his hand - he wrote more than 300 works for mandolin in all kinds of strengths - are written for his students and with the idea of elevating the mandolin and its unique possibilities as a concert instrument, in mind. Carlo Munier died in Florence on February 11, 1911.
Ruth Rouw and Pauline Ulderink have chosen to perform Munier's beautiful 'Andante', of the 1st duet from the '3 Duetti Concertanti' Op. 9.

Ruth and Pauline are members of the Dutch MAndolin Chamber Orchestra Het CONSORT. Here they both play on Embergher 5bis Concert mandolins which are strung with bronze round wound CONSORT strings made by the German Lenzner/Fisoma string makers company.

This video was made on March 13th, 2008 during a students concert of the Center of the Arts De MUZERIE in Zwolle, Netherlands.

  • Bella composición, como una hermosa interpretación, una ejecución muy limpia y un bello fraseo, felicitaciones.

  • Sounds like the most beautifully musical soprano voice floating over a precisely complementary accompaniament. Thank you so much.
