The Butterfly
Words & Music by Aaron K. Tessis

A fish swam half way around the world to a place called Unknown Waters
The journey took forty-one days, on the forty-second it changed
Cause on that day the fish met a flower, he stared at the orchid for hours
Graciously swooned by natures song, such a beautiful bloom is where he belongs
Is where I belong

Now that Ive found you who knew fish could fly
It rained; the water began to rise
Our meeting was short as the reign of ours capsized
The tide sunk; we had to say goodbye

Let me see you on the floor, watch you dance a little more
Because I love the way you Bamba baby
Then we talked all night and we kissed into the light
I wish we never caught eyes, or that you never caught mine

The fish could dream, he dreamed to be a man; and found himself the beautiful orchid
Morning rose he wanted to take her, despite it being a dream, and a crime against nature
He found a way so long as he stayed dry to stay a man, but her petals slowly died
In his last effort to save he took her to the tide, he turned a fish; the last petal a butterfly
She turned a butterfly

Im going to find you, fly but you cant hide
You stayed by me all this time
Watching you sail on the wind of the pink nights sky
Remember always a butterfly

Let me see you on the floor...

Nights getting darker, black skies and her visits grow sparser
Deep in the blue, the fish was forced to start anew
He told himself you cant trap a butterfly, same way you cant keep fish dry
He knew that much

The fish swam on to meet another, never to find love like the other
Questioned how well he could know a butterfly, she was a flower first; was it all a lie?
But soon he realized what it was; twas not a lie, but his idea about love
In his heart he knew despite his wish, you wont find a butterfly inside another fish

Let me see you on the floor...
