Nuthin that woman can do to stop this one. Besides, she got outta him what she set after- and that was her career. That's all she wanted him for- to further her career, and she wasn't settling for a live in relationship. I am happy though that he got Jesse Belle out of the deal....she was his heart's dream. RIP John, you are missed by so many!!! And yeah I think it's a great song to his ex... she deserves that and more. I think they call these kinds of women "Gold Diggers", if I'm not mistaken?

I had this song downloaded on Napster , years ago, but, when our PC died ( virus !!!) I thought I'd lost it . . .but NO !! Hoorah. . .So, I'm gonna send it to my ex. . .I'm sure he'll love it. . .the cheating S.O.A.B lol .He loves Meatloaf, so he's got crap taste in music, and the one he left me for. . .has left him for a vet ha ha, and she and I are the best of friends. @musicmandon1 JD was a VERY experienced pilot- he had years of flying experience in many types of planes from Lears to experimentals like the EZ. THAT'S the hardest part of the whole thing- he KNEW he should have put gas in the plane or had it done for him but he didn't AND igonored 2 other test pilots warnings to get the gas switch changed before flying it- had nothing to do with a small plane-if it's a commercial jet and they don;t put enough fuel in it- it's going to crash as well!

@puck57 She probably wanted the residuals more than anything!!! There is a legal way to make him stop – but she’d have lost!! It is the "law of inference"!!! In other words – who else would he be singing this to (could be someone else)!!! It is when there is only 1 possibility – then the law of inference is used. But he could have been singing that to anyone. If he mentions that she WAS his LAST wife – THEN he’d be in trouble – he only had 1 LAST wife on earth!!!

@pjt614 I don't see HOW she would have been able to!! Her name is not mentioned in the song even though ANYONE who knows anything about their split would immediately know who the song is for!! He sang this song in fact up to the end at his final concerts right before the crash so Ms Delaney would not have any legal basis to prohibit him from sining it whenever he wanted.to. No basis for that rumor I would say although I am sure she would have wanted to if she could.

@Surfertree Kinda late to reply but couldn't resist. That was JD for you ya. If he found a story/joke/comment the audience liked you KNEW you'd hear it again....and again. There were some of his stories I think I could recite along with him. But never once did I grow tired of hearing them. Sure wish we were still hearing them.  I SOOO miss his concerts. They were food for my soul!

I'm sorry, that Song of Don Bruns is a nice one too, but the song, John Denver was singing, was his own production. He did the lyrics and the music! He wrote it, when he was on the road, presenting his biography. On this tour, he heard of a book, writen by a Woman, which was titled like that. And he was just 'a little bit'' angry about his devorce of his 2nd wife - and the quarrel the two of them had about theyr daughter, about money and so on...'Kissing You Goodbye' was the result of that!
