The "Shack" Hawaii Kai - PARTY!!

Bev, Joe and I went to watch the UH football game. People who party have sought refuge and booze at this bar countless times. If you live on the marina and own a boat...you can cruise right up to this place. It's super casual, cheap and friendly, open late, and til 10 pm ish you can sit right dockside on the all-wood deck outside and enjoy tiki torches.

People bring their dogs here and the servers bring them bowls of water. Bikers line their hogs up here and belly up to the bar next to aloha-shirt bearing workingstiffs.

The food is really good. Having tried many things here, these are the standouts: the fish sandwich. Ask what fish they have today, because they catch their own fish. Yes, you heard me. For about $8, get a hefty cut of opah, ahi, or marlin or mahi, onion, tomato, lettuce, mayo. It is flat- out one of the best things on the menu. The chili is also great, and a steal at $5. Oriental chicken plate with a side of mandarins (sub that for the mac salad) is a sweet teri treat. Wings also really tasty. Mom, you drive me crazy, but the Shack restores my sanity.

This is a very family-friendly place, lots of folks bring kids, and have not seen much sketchy weirdness, but this was funny: A couple months ago, went for lunch, and sat just inside the dining room looking out the glass at the harbor, and a young couple downing shots at a rather unhealthy pace...this classic drunk white chick lurches out of her seat and slithers to her butt, loudly complaining that her slightly less drunk skinny boyfriend doesn't love her enough, and various other shallow, self centered and slurry accusations, then hurtles off thru the bar. I had had out my phone in order to check some email. The BF comes in, and asks sternly - "Did you put that on YouTube!?" I'm like, "'No way!" Then he starts grinning and laughing and says "Why NOT?!" And stumbles off after le DWC. Hahaha (but seriously, never seen anything dramabombish like this there before or since).
