M.A.N. diesel-hydraulic twin railcar of the glorious Peloponnese railroads (spap) on a descend of the notorious Hrani-Dessylla pass.
The autorail literally dances on the old narrow-gauge (1 meter wide) track making terrible noise and terrifing the passengers, crossing many beautiful old bridges, tunnels, supporting walls and stations all made in the late 19th century (The works were so difficult and expensive for the time that they were abandoned 3 times before the opening in November 1899 of this last 15 kms section of the Argos-Tripolis-Kalamata line.)
Right after the first tunnel and the view of a bridge (Kokkinolaka bridge) deep down the cliff, one can see the 2002 derailment site:
On the stormy night of the 3rd December 2002 (01:15am) a huge rock fell on the rails causing the railcar to abandon them after the inevitable collision (a curve hid the rock) After sliding on the wet ground both cars stopped just few meters before the terrible 200m cliff, saving all 28 on board.
The line is now closed between Corinth and Kalamata for track reconstruction. The modern track and railstock with no opening windows will make the thrill and fun of the travel a past memory...
that is nuts. I operate on a shortline and we have bad track but dammm. and THE SPEED!!! That should be like 10 mph

The average is no more than 30 mph, with max 40-50mph before Argos (Athens -Kalamata in 6 1/2 hours!)
