Ron Paul - National ID - The People should be OUTRAGED.

You really should be outraged. We are seeing the same things happening here in the Netherlands. Mandatory fingerprinting for our passports. If you can't show your ID, you can end up in jail for several hours, and enjoy the inmate treatment of our loving police force. All this data will be stored in government databases.. And they are not stopping at our fingerprints.. Our DNA is up next.

Paranoid much? Its just a way to proof you are in a country legally to make it easier to see who is breaking our law by being here illegally. Of course it won't be used with stupid useless things like at a postoffice, do you need to proof you are who you say you are to post a letter..NO. Carying a small card to proof you are who you are does not lessen your privacy.. you only show it to a cop on the off chance you are asked to show your card.

@whiteonyx4 I'll give you the Dutch example. It is now mandatory to give your fingerprints, before you can even get your ID card. We already have/had a database which stores these fingerprints, open for the police. Think fingerprinting is fail safe? Nope.. Same goes for DNA. Who is being paranoid?!? Governments who see "TERORRISM" in anything? Or the civilians who have to live with it? If you ever end up in the NL, ask the cop for his ID, we have enough fake ones running around.

@whiteonyx4 En wat wil jij doen als de overheid net zo'n gigantische blunder maakt als met Diginotar, of de laatste miljoenennota?!? Ga jij een potje blij doen als blijkt dat jouw prive gegevens voor het oprapen liggen? Alle databases die deze overheid opstelt zijn voor mijn gevoel een zeer grote bedreiging voor onze privacy en identiteit. Dat jij dit niet wil inzien, moet je helemaal zelf weten. De overheid en "terrorisme" dat is pas paranoia.

@enslavetherich Je kunnen identificeren is een ding,data over je bijhouden is een ander (helemaal wanneer je geen toestemming geeft).En ja,de overheid mag wel eens wat slimmer zijn wanneer het over digitale beveiliging gaat.Maar in Nederland lopen we al jaren op zak met een ID-bewijs.Ik heb hem NOG NOOIT moeten laten zien.En als zo'n klein kaartje waarmee je kunt aantonen wie je bent help dan vindt ik dat prima.Je moet je rijbewijs toch ook laten zien als je door de politie aangehouden word.

@whiteonyx4 Rijbewijs heb ik geen probleem mee, hoe kan men anders zien of je een auto mag besturen. Hetgeen waar ik mee zit is dat al onze gegevens van elektronisch kinderdossier, mobiele communicatie data, tot aan de vingerafdrukken van ons paspoort opgeslagen worden. Die zijn onderhevig aan datamining door overheidsinstanties en andere (buitenlandse) ondernemingen. De vingerafdrukken van ons Nederlanders hoeft maar 1x openbaar te worden gemaakt, daar zal/kan een boel ellende van komen.

@enslavetherich Inderdaad van gevoelige info moet de overheid vanaf blijven. Daar ben ik het helemaal mee eens. Maar zoiets onnozels als je ID-bewijs laten zien... ik snap niet hoe ze in de VS daar zo over in kunnen zitten. Net zoals een rijbewijs om te bewijzen dat je mag rijden. Is je ID een bewijs dat je er mag verblijven en je inderdaad bent wie je zegt te zijn. We hebben het al jaren in NL, ik heb het nooit hoeven te laten zien. Hij is nu gratis, het is alleen maar handig.

@enslavetherich I am Dutch actually. And in my part of the country we never ever had any trouble with the cops nor any sightings of a fake cop. And I don't mind if they want my fingerprints, I have nothing to hide. And to be earnest I think it's a good thing our government is paranoid about terrorism...it's their job. To protect it's people they are suppose to do risk management and come up with measures to limit risks. Some do mean changes for people but the downsides out measure the upsides.

"Why not have cameras everywhere, on every street corner?" Cameras are installed on some street corners here in Toronto to catch speeding. Also, I remember back in 2007 (I think) seeing a police cruiser with cameras installed on both sides of the car driving by my street, twice.  It appeared to me that they're trying to create a database, for what reason, I don't know.
