New Arts Collective, Vague Protest

New Arts Collective is an organization of artists in San Luis Obispo who spent the summer of 2009 collaborating on public performance art and art installations in San Luis Obispo. The group was started by Ashley Schwellenbach, the Arts Editor at New Times, and their efforts were documented for an issue of the paper, released Sept. 24, 2009 (www.newtimesslo.com). For this particular event, participants were asked to bring a vague protest sign and we marched along the streets chanting slogans like "no way," "no more," and "Oh no, they didn't" without any real message. People's reactions ranged from annoyed to amused.
