Original song (c) Brian Hardman 2010.................................................................Its a curious thing is a chain of events
You link it all up does it make any sense
Bonds cant be broken while hands are still tied
By words that were spoken when somebody lied
Chances were taken and chances were missed
But hands cant be held in the shape of a fist
And the rivers to cross could be cried in a day
Where the ones that you love are all drifting away
Theres a part of your soul that you never will sell
For a piece of your heart that still lays where it fell
And places you tripped over sticks in the mud
Where lights didnt burn quite as bright as they should

The part of the picture where someone forgot
That stripes can be earned while changing your spots
The spark that you saw that will never be warm
And you thought their eyes were on sparkling form
But you walked for miles when the shoes didnt fit
To a place you cant move cos the path isnt lit
Remember the place where the gravy train stopped
The passengers screamed we dont wanna get off

The tigers that sharpened their claws in a rage
Before they could see what had rattled the cage
If the hole in your flesh weighs exactly a pound
Its a lot expect that you wont make a sound
Is it written in blood is it carved upon stone
With a little design only part of its shown
Fool that you are can you weather the storm
As every day starts with pistols at dawn

Its a curious thing is a chain of events
You link it all up let the lesson commence
The tapestrys worn and the colours look old
But a part of the picture is speckled with gold
I got time on my side if experience pays
But time cannot mend all the colour that fades
Does it mean that we were content
We could sleep on a clothes line then

  • excellent Brian. Curious, these chain of events. You have a wonderful gift of writing. Thanks for sharing.

  • Ooohh .. beautiful, Brian. We all know you're a brilliant lyricist and this song is full of wonderful lines (and a brilliant ending) but the thing that really struck me in this song is the sadness and quietness in your voice. I was riveted listening to this :)

  • Theirs a life experience quality to your writing. It comes out in your songs and makes the delivery so much more believable. Its hard to listen to a 19 year old sing about life. Its not their fault but your like wine my friend. Some things get better with a little age. Not that were old guys, but with a few wrinkles comes the experince of living that you are able to communicate so eloquently in your music.

  • You have so many great qualities as a writer and a singer and a guitarist. I never get tired of listening to you sing, either.

    You're amazing Brian!
