The Winstons 'Amen' Break which is a famous groove in both the funk and drum and bass genres and styles. Not very good, still working on it but I'm getting there. Now the reason why my tempo is screwed up is because when i counted off, i counted off too quickly so i tried to find a decent tempo. I tried to speed it up gradually (really gradually) and i couldn't find the right tempo and i had to adjust is while counting off and playing

  • It's been 2 years since you posted this attempt. Have you tried it again? It's a pretty simple pattern, and there's no hi hat on the song.

  • @phillydisco

yes i have tried it again, i know how to play it properly. But at the start of the video it says 'with a touch of jojo mayer' this is how another drummer plays and messes around with the groove... it's not exactly the amen break...

  • Very nice left hand there towards the end!

  • good break but its not quite amen

  • @zeepster HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  • not dnb .... this is break beat

  • Someone need to SAMPLE this cat into their MPC because those are some great sounding Drums perfect for Analog samples

  • THIS IS DOPE!!! Love the sound and the SNARE is popping

  • thats not the right break, hun

  • @BelgianJungleSound The drummer could be playing an open hi hat in some parts of the tune. I should have been more specific that there isn't any close hi hat play.

  • @BelgianJungleSound It's all cymbal, the drummer doesn't play the groove using the hi hat. The end is a cymbal hit that's muted by the drummer grabbing it.

  • @phillydisco what's the sound at the end of the amen that sounds like a cymbal?
