I first saw them in 1980 by accident in an art gallery in SF. I was overwhelmed. I left and walked around SF for an hour or so and was compelled to return. When I returned I told the gallery attendant I'd had to leave. She replied that she had to leave on her first viewing too, but returned because she thought they depicted us "exactly the way we are." You will never forget the experience.
Saw IN for the first time at the San Jose Museum of Art in November. His piece "And the Gods Created the World in Their Own Image" gave me goosebumps. 1954? GTFO.
I first discovered Irving Norman at the AVAM's War and Peace exhibit. He was an amazing artist. No-one knows about him. Nothing abstract about this expressionism. The soldiers in War and peace remind me of the angels of Giotto in the Cappella Scrovegni.

Looks like something a modern day Hieronymous Bosch would do. Garden of Earthly Delights? Amazing work...
