Farewell Tribute to Jiggy

On Sunday, January 31st, 2010, Ducks' goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere was traded from the Anaheim Ducks to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Forward Jason Blake, and fellow goalie Vesa Toskala. Giguere will join former Ducks player Francois Beauchemin who joined the Leafs as a Free Agent in the Summer of 2009, former Ducks GM Brian Burke who had left the Ducks early 2009, and Francois Allaire, his former Goalie coach.

This trade was a result of Hiller allegedly winning the no. 1 spot over Giguere leaving the Ducks with a $6 million dollar back-up. Hiller gets rewarded with a 4 year, $4.5 million extension meaning that the Ducks then have committed $10.5 million on 2 goalies. That led to this trade.

This is my final tribute to perhaps the most popular and best Duck of the 2000s. He had done so much for this franchise, putting them on the NHL map, and it is just unfair how he was treated this year. He's a warrior, a fiery competitor, a leader off the ice, and a class act. As a long-time Ducks' fan, I wish him the best.

Edit: Note that on 3:43, I forgot to mention the word "Playoff" here.

Update: February 2nd, 2010. Jiggy played his 1st game as a Maple Leaf against the New Jersey Devils. He not only won the game but earned his 33rd career shutout and 1st as a Leaf making 29 saves and receiving the 1st star award.

why would you fire carlyle? hes taken the Ducks to the playoffs, and won a cup with them, but look as soon as Murray joins..Rob Niedermayer (gone) Chris Pronger (gone) i understand where your coming from but i feel that we need a new GM before a new coach.

@FreeXBird1993 Well, we already have a "new" GM in Bob Murray and, like you said, Pronger and Rob are gone, I just feel that he was good in the past, maybe not so much anymore. His record over the past 5 years speak for themselves especially after the Cup win. I think Carlyle's outlived his usefulness. Don't get me wrong, he's a good coach but I just don't think the system that he puts in is the right fit for this team.

BIGGGEST mistake the ducks made last year was to get rid of him, Im a kings fan and even saying that jiggy was prob the only duck i liked and with all his personal issues he has had over the years i liked him even more for playing through it. ducks are gonna win anything with Hiller hes not a playoff goalie and as u all saw last year i dont even think he can handle being a full time starter

R.I.P> Jiggy's career the ducks are worthless without him and pronger and to be sent to Toronto? his career is done. unless he could take them to the cup next year but i doubt it, him being the only decent player on the team.

The ducks aernt going to be amazing every year which people seem to think. without Prongs, Niedermayer, Beauchemin, Kunitz. all those big stars that helped us to the 07 finals and cup are all gone. i know at one point it wasnt Murray's fault but getting rid of Prongs took away some of the teams that feared the ducks dont anymore..sure we have Brown, and Parros but Prongs was an all around athlete.
