In May of 1984 a small building that housed a 5 member congregation was placed in the hands of Pastor Jim Cymbala, senior pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle with one stipulation. The owner requested that the structure solely be utilized for the work of the Lord. Agreeing to these terms, Pastor Cymbala needed a man to shepherd the new work that God would birth in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn. Pastor Cymbala and the leadership of The Brooklyn Tabernacle began to pray and seek God for who that person would be. After much prayer they sensed the Holy Spirit directing their attention to a couple who headed their street and youth ministries faithfully. Michael and Maria Durso would be chosen by the Lord to spearhead this new venture.

Newly ordained, Pastor Michael and Maria were sent out with a small team to start this task. Drawing from the many lessons the Lord had taught them in the training field of street evangelism, they cried out to God for souls and used the vehicle of street concerts to reach the lost. Many people came to have personal encounters with Jesus Christ and the congregation grew rapidly. It became apparent that the building could not house all the needs of those attending and they would soon need a new facility. The church lifted up their requests to the Lord and once again the family of Christ Tabernacle would see evidence of Gods faithfulness.

As a result, God provided a new building for the vastly growing congregation. In April of 1996 they would have their first service in the new building, an auditorium that seats 1,000 at 64-34 Myrtle Ave in Glendale, NY. Within a short period of time however, it became necessary to implement additional services to accommodate the still expanding number of people who attend and are being transformed by the power of God. The church is excited about this new opportunity to reach hurting people for Jesus Christ.
