If you want to explore Chip Taylor's back catalogue, then his 'Last Chance' album is the best place to start. It wasn't easy to pigeonhole at the time, some say it was 25 years ahead of it's time, and I would certainly agree with that.
'(I Want)The Real Thing' was the lead off track and sets the scene for the rest of the album perfectly.I was tempted to upload the entire album, but rather, please seek out the original vinyl or the CD release and champion this eclectic and original songwriter and performer.

  • The name of Chip Taylor is synonymous with hit songs and it is amazing to think that one person is talented enough to write such classic songs as diverse as 'Wild Thing', 'Angel Of The Morning', 'I Can't Let Go', 'Country Girl, City Man', 'Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)', '(I Want) The Real Thing' and 'Just A Little Bit Later On Down The Line'. Perhaps what is not so well appreciated is that Chip commenced his career as a great rock 'n' roll singer under the name of Wes Voight.

  • @skrivis52 Absolutely endorse everything you say.He was of a time when songwriting was a means of making a living and like so many others ,putting their own versions out was a bonus.Think John Stewart,Mac Davis,Bobby Russell and Paul Williams.Ironically, their own versions were so often the definitive ones.

Love to hear some of that Wes Voight stuff.

  • OMG, I used to love this song and play it all the time. I haven't thought about it for years, but I still love. Thank you for posting this gem. I'm gonna wear out my replay-button finger on this song.

  • Thank you for listening. This song should have catapulted Chip to Superstardom.

    By the way,,,Love your Channel.

  • this is the definitive version of this song

  • Chip Taylor one of the very finest talents..fortunate to have seen /heard him in local rooms above pubs solo.....here in Bristol England and found him great each time.

  • Stoney Edwards recorded this and it is the first version I heard.

  • Great to find this...one of my all time favorite LP's. Thanks!
