Hello to all fans of Flight Simulator - the Hurricane Hunters amoungst you! This is a 'realtime recording' of a flight into the eye of category 3 tropical cyclone Kujira - recorded on May 5th 2009. It is not a fancy clip, but the recording quality should be quite good on YouTube.

WinXP Pro - DirectX 9.0c
Airplane texture details: Highest
Cloud density: Highest
Ground texture: High
Water texture: Normal
Blur lighting: OFF
Video frame rate limitation: 40fps
FRAPS video capture recording speed: 1280x1024px@30fps
Weather: Real weather (automatic download every 15min)
Flight Level: FL350 (35,000ft - 11.6km above NN)
Antialiasing ON 2x (very important, does not consume much fps!)

Recording PC:
Intel Core2Duo E8400, 4GB RAM, GFX NVidia Geforce9600GT, 2 HDD SATAII 7200 rpm (first HDD for system and FSX program, second HDD for recording - RAID0 is not useful!).

About the weather effects:
Well, in FS2004 it was almost not possilbe to make a flight into an eye of a hurricane due to local weather resolution. You could not find the 'eye' properly. In FSX it is - more or less... ;)

2:30 there you can see it.

Do not forget - these are standard clowds from FSX. Maybe in the overnext version of MS Flight Simulator (2012 or later) you can see it better... ;)

No you cant. Its not a cyclone.

This was a cyclone! In 10 years Microsoft Flight Simulator will probably add more realistic GFX for such events! ;)

Singapore Airlines did not use 737s. SilkAir is Singapore Airlines sister. Singapore has two airlines.

That happened to me in real life. I was on jet blue while a hurricane occured, and we flew above the hurricane. I don't remember any turbulence, though I think their was.
