The famous Bogor Botanic Gardens, in Indonesia cover more than 80 hectares. They were officially opened in 1817 by Java's Dutch Governor-General Gustaaf Willem, Baron van Imhoff who was governor of Java at the time. The gardens are said to be the inspiration of Sir Stamford Raffles who was governor of Java from 1811-1816.
