denman won the cheltnam gold cup this year

Denman : 1/11112/11111/1111/22F/1U24-3. Denman had not finished out of the top 2 until his last 2 races and he has fallen or unseated for the first time in his career in 2 of the 4 races prior to this.

Kauto Star : 21/11F2353/112/21F/111111/2111­22/1U11/11F-13. Kauto has not finished out of the top two since 2004 ... until his last race (at level weights). 2 legends; hopefully they'll go out in a blaze of glory and enjoy a long retirement - unlike the ill fated Best Mate(died in race aged 10)

Denman was a great horse but he's 11yo now - Denman easily won the Hennessy carrying 11-12 in 2007 and 2009 but he couldn't in 2010; Similarly Kauto won the King George easily from 2006-2009 but couldn't repeat the feat in the 2010 renewal (in Jan 2011!). No 11yo has won the Gold Cup since the 60s and while these are two fantastic horses their recent form speaks for itself…..

denmans a tank a legend kauto is like a ballet dancer, for the gold cup my head says denman but my gut says imprerial commander but i love kauto. 50 on denman handicppers can put the tank down but if he gets them at it like 2008 then lights out for the young guns and old. queen mother chase have a SNEAK ON SOMERSBY

Denman is my favourite chaser but I respect KS also. However the awesome weight carrying performances of Denman, particuarly the 2nd Hennesy merit more than a level weight win in the K George IMO. When push comes to show Kauto's jumping can go to pieces and I've a feeling Denman will be spot on for the Gold Cup. Is he having a pipe opener or going straight there?

The prices on Denman and KS are amazing. Something tells me the two greats will have too much for the young guns yet!

@luxonus Come on mate, you can't just describe Denman's 2 Hennsey wins as just 'handicaps!' Winning both off those off top weight is an awesome performance. The commentator in the 2nd win said it was the best weight carrying performabce he'd seen, surpassing when Crisp got touched off by Red Rum. That was just before my time but I've seen the race.

One Man and Teeton Mill won the Hennessy off 10.5 and Jodami couldn't win it off 10st so give respect to Denman for winning off 11.10.
