Jeremy Clarkson is a liar...

Jeremy Clarkson commented on the Top Gear episode 4 of series 12 that the Subaru Legacy diesel has no torque, this video is meant to show that he was lying.

At the beginning of the video the car is rolling on idle without any gas in 2nd gear.

Then i floor it...

I think it has enough torque.

Come on! I don't take JC comments that seriously. If it only takes about a minute to film a clip that i know will get viewers by giving it a provocative title, where's the harm?

I love my diesel Subaru, and while i acknowledge that it didn't have the best available torque down low, it had enough and i still enjoy driving one...

@popunit What video are you commenting on? I mean, this video is a 2nd gear acceleration from about 10 mph idle on 2nd gear, so it can't be this one.

I hope you understand that there is a huge difference between the time that it takes for a car to go from idle to high revs in any car by only using one gear from a rolling start.

My Subaru has about 3400-3500lbs (1650-1700kg) to haul from 800 rpm upwards.

I know that my car isn't the fastest. but still it pulls cleanly from idle.

what are you talking about hes a liar, your car is nearly 13 seconds to 100 kmz that is slower then a bmw 318i which has a 1.8L engine your full of crap

Dude still ;) no torque....and it might be from idle roll but your car is nonetheless moving. Its easier to keep a car moving than it is from a dead stop.

Not to mention your doing nearly 20kmh when you 'punch' it...

So when he says 13secs, he's nearly right, you 'punch' it at 1sec in video, then it takes you to nearly 13secs to hit 100kmh

Add the fact that you started at 20...then yea 13secs is not that far off...if your doing it in 2nd...

@elitewolverine Not that I'm impressed with his car's torque, but being in 2nd gear at idle more than negates the advantage of those meager 20 km/h he didn't have to cover; usually standing starts are faster than rolling starts.

@markotark it doesn't pull cleanly, it pulls by the gearbox's strenght, so to say, not the engine's. you see it by the fact it pulls from about 1900 2000 revs so it means that in regular driving when you find yourself in 1500 rev zone, if you don't downshift your call will slowly pick up the pace until 2000

@louis2710 ok it is in 2nd, but still, it has a lot of delay from 20, and really explodes about 2000 revs, which is performance of old vw's 1.9 tdi with 90 hp
