Luke Abbott's first full-length album, Holkham Drones, is a deep dive into synthesizer worship. It maintains a vintage sound that calls back to the work of Kraftwerk, but still holds its own with contemporaries when it comes to adventure and experimentation.

From arpeggio odysseys to quirky dance tracks, this album has a lot to offer. Though it may not be the most cohesive thing on the block, it's still an engaging listen.

If you gave a listen to this album, what did you think of it? Love it? Hate it? Why?

8/10

  • This is a really fantastic review. I'm very impressed. Have a good day.

  • i don't agree with you musically but you seem like a nice enough guy

  • i cant believe he didnt say the words krautrock, analog techno, james holden or border community once during his review but there plenty of comparisons to some hipster bullshit like beach house that has no relation to where abbott is coming from whatsoever

  • @cscheben hes on holden's label border community

  • I don't own this CD, but I think almost all the songs from this CD are on youtube. The weirdest thing about this CD is the fact that the music is "barely there." it is so sublime but yet works on so many levels *because* the music is layered on top of itself you can't help but discover something new every single time you listen to it.

  • Looks like I'm late to the party on this one. Didn't love this album but I liked it. It was a bit long, loved Hello Tazelaar, wished there was more like Baalnk, and the untitled closer was real pleasant surprise.

So, Is this where I leave review suggestions? How about She Was Coloured In by Solar Bears? They're a couple Dubliners with a debut full-length on Planet Mu.

  • nice review! viva border community!

  • Love this album, Border Community never fails.

  • Metroid! epic
