**Sad Update: We had to euthanize Goose in September 2008. Until the very end, we were able to conquer his relapses and restore quality of life. Eventually, he suffered a relapse we could not beat and it was clearly his time. We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support we have received. We will keep the videos of him on YouTube so we may continue to assist the owners of auto-immune Weims who view them and contact us.**

Old description:
Goose after 3.5 weeks of Steroids. We started at 40 mg daily (divided in 2 doses), then weaned to about 22 mg daily by 1/04. On 1/05, his CBC revealed that his WBC was 17 (normal range 7-16), so we jumped back to the immunosuppressive dose of 30 mg daily. We will check his blood again next week to see if we can resume weaning.

  • Glad to see Goose is better now. What was the problem??

  • Thanks! Unfortunately, he isn't out of the woods just yet! He has an auto-immune disease, most likely HOD. He had another setback recently, but we are continuing the steroid treatment and hoping for the best!

  • Nice looking dog man, hope he is doing alright, I coincidentally have a weim named Goose, but he is only 8 months. Your Goose looks very lean, I'm feeding him 2 cups of food twice a day, is that bad? Or should I be feeding him less? Thanks a lot!

  • Thank God he is better!

  • All my wishes go out to Goose for a good recovery :-) He's a very handsome boy.

  • My Weim had the same thing...he was about 2 years old when the episodes stopped...and I haven't had one since...Shadow is 3 now...and is as rambunctious as weims are...lol...good luck...and stick to the prednisone....it will end

  • we have a two year old weim named bosley, he has suffered from the auto immune disease called strangles,he has been on steroids since he was eight weeks old,we have finally gotten him off of the steroids, and he is now happy and healthly, good luck and hang in there,it can be a long road but they are so worth it!!!
