I say Gavin Harrison is better than both, jus sayin.
-
well this isn't biased at all...

Imo a real comparison would be: Portnoy and Mangini!
Why? They're both the best drummers when i'ts about technique. And it is technique that matters :3
-
lads its a wee bit like saying who is better and breathing me or my dad? Portnoy influenced the rev massively and also has quite a few years on him. the rev also plays in a metal band and not a progressive artist like Portnoy. they were both one of a kind in there genre and i dont think they deserve comparison. R.I.P jimmy, and mike i think your a douche for leaving dt
-
The rev is dead u dick , no point in comparing. Besides portnoy has way more experience

i like them both the same the rev was a jeneous i love his drumming style rip the rev, and mike portnoy well fuck hes one of the best iv ever heard, i was glad when i found out mike portnoy was gonna help a7x with their new album i was glad it was him becuz he was really the only one with the revs style. RIP Jimmy The Rev Sullivan

@facetheflyn But just because people like the Rev doesn't mean that Portnoy doesn't have any fans, this video is one sided. They chose the worst songs and pictures possible for rev, and Portnoy is in Avenged Sevenfold now PS if it helps the rev loved portnoy:)
-
It is kinda unfair because 1)You chose the worst pictures of the Rev 2) You would cut to Portnoy's song before the Rev actually got to start, and 3)Portnoy is actually in Avenged Sevenfold now that the Rev passed...... It's kinda one sided.

Ya terrible examples for the Rev, technique on the drums Portnoy takes it hands down. As for overall musicianship I would give that one to the Rev, also a better singer in my opinion, but the Revs best drum examples are found in the bridge/outro for the song demons 4:33 into that song. Also in the first chorus of the song critical acclaim the syncopation on the highhat at 1:40 definitely shows his talent better
The Rev. You picked some of the least technical songs he played and always changed to the next song just before he got going. And as for mike singing while drumming, The Rev did that too. He also wrote a shit tonne of their songs, not just lyrics but the works, and he could play piano, drums, bass, rhythm AND lead guitar and actually had vocal talent unlike mike. Not a tough choice for whose better if you ask me. "but hey it's all an opinion"
