Gameplay from the Knuckles Chaotix prototype "Sonic Crackers". This is probably the most interesting Sonic the Hedgehog prototype ever, even moreso than the original Sonic 2 Beta. It's a big glitchy mess mind you.

Sonic Crackers eventually became the 32X hit Knuckles Chaotix, though the 32X bombed pushing that game into obscurity. Sonic and Tails became Mighty and "Wechidna", the latter being only choosable from debug modes. It's thought that the playable levels here became Techno Tower and Speed Slider, with the "overworlds" scrapped in favour of a 2D lobby.

  • Yeah I'm probably going to have to replace this video since my handy dandy CamStudio decided to drop framerates on the fast sections and I was too blind to notice.

  • Yes, Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic Advance 3 probably were inspired by it.

  • Sega still had the rights to Mighty, just like the Chaotix.

    Only, what can Mighty, Ray, Fang, and so on have in uniqueness to contribute?

    Mighty = Sonic's old design down to his personality, with red look. Reused as Knuckles, then Shadow.

    Ray = Tail's old design.

    SegaSonic the Arcade probably is sort of the earlier version of Sonic Heroes, down to the color themes.

    Fang = mischevious character. Rouge had more uniqueness than him.

    They all can be revised though, like the Chaotix.

  • The idea is good.

    But the mechanic of the gameplay need more work, so Knuckles was used as an experiment.

    I think the problem is the size of the characters, it would have better if the size ratio of the two characters is more drastic. Like Sonic with a Chip size character, or like Tails and Mecha Tails in Tails Adventure.

    Not to mentioned that very short invisible 'rubber band' that can't be used or unused or manipulated anytime.

    As for the SatAM characters.

    Here are comparison of them to game characters:

    Sally filled by Amy, even to a extent, Elise.

    Antione until recently empty, but now filled with Chip (unless he became like Tikal).

    Rotor filled by Tails, with comedical big guy thing to Big.

    Bunny filled by Cream, with the sex appeal role to Rogue. But the sweet sexy teen role is still absent, but Cream probably will look like her, also I prefer using Honey.

  • i hope you mean a Sonic Xtreme prototype, because SA3=No, thanks to SEGA. Speaking of them, rumor is, they wont be devoloping Sonic 4. DIMPS will.

  • This is where the idea for SA3 came from. If only they continued this gold. It would've kicked azz. This could be a possible character roster:

    Princess Sally

    Antione D'Coolette

    Rotor Walrus

    Bunny Rabbot

    Why the SatAM characters ? Look at the 1st level. Looks a lot like Robotropolis dosen't it? Now look at the 1st field stage. Reminds me of the Void.

    Shoulda bought this for $150 off Ebay when I had the chance.
