This is my favorite Christmas song! The original was done by Emerson Lake and Palmer. Here is an informal version of it at the piano in my music room. I recorded it with my Zoom Q3 HD

  • I liked that very much. That Jordan could play everything he wanted I already knew, but was clueless he could sing well at the same time...

I guess it's a rare opportunity of singing + VIRTUOSO piano... Normally, singers who play the piano at the same time keep the ivories safe: just a left hand bass and right hand chords (normally). But this video is a different world, it's a bit like "Elton John singing and playing like Franz Liszt", or maybe "Billy Joel singing and playing like Rachmaninov"!

  • @guitarrhythymfool Well, there's no need to attach "perfect" with "music instrument". They're in a different world. Every musical instrument is just the tools to express the human feelings, it's just a bunch of strings, blocks, woods, brasses, pipes, logical programmed sounds, synths.

Music instrument becomes "perfect" when there's a right person playing the right instrument with the right songs and notes at the right time.

  • my God He's singing!!i dint know that!

  • Hey Jordan, why don't you do some vocal harmonies with DT? You are obviously a skilled singer! And... well being able to sing that good while playing the piano like THAT... It's impressive, man! With Portnoy gone, you need someone to help Petrucci out with the backing vocals. Oh, and happy new year!

  • @guitarrhythymfool the only clever usage that make also sense for electronic music that come in my mind is Kraftwerk - synthetic music is just as good as to express human alienation against the technology itself, as Kraftwerk (and their heirs) well expressed. No need to agree though cos your point is as good as mine ;C)

  • @soogoonu the perfect thing for the moment.

  • @soogoonu I'm not sure I can agree with you.

For me, the electric guitar is one of the most perfect instruments. I can clearly get across almost anything I'm feeling at the moment, and much of what I can't say through a guitar I can say through a piano.

But there are a few things that I want a synth for. The aftertouch effects on certain synth keyboards are wonderful for helping me truly get across what I'm feeling at the moment.

It's hard to describe, but some electronic instruments are just

  • @carlosdlguerra No, he sounds like Cat Stevens to me as well.

  • @Shellewell and also, we don't forget that sound we listen off youtube is digitally chewed ;)

nonetheless I'm not arguing about subjectivity but about how a piano (or a guitar or similar) instrument can transmit more effectively the feelings of an artist than an electronic device - you can't deny this is something one can feel the difference.

  • Am i the only one who thought his voice sounds cat stevens?
