Album Review : The Dandy Warhols Come Down by The Dandy Warhols

Released in 1997 on Capital Records in 1997.

The Dandy's first major label album. The Dandy's play an eclectic mix of psychedelic rock meets 60's rock n' roll meets brit pop.

The Good : This album has quite a few really good psychedelic / pop rock songs. They incorporate a variety of instruments. They have a good sense of harmony and a knack for big, fuzzy sonic textures for the most part. The songs on here sound unlike what a lot of 90's bands were doing. The singles are also very catchy.

The Bad : This album is very uneven. It starts off with a good song flow which is abruptly killed when the slew of singles starts. The track order could have been more thought out. some of the psyche/rock songs are too derivative. Dandys are only as good as their influences. The instrument playing sounds fairly basic and is probably only passable due to the big budget production.


In conclusion, this album does have enough good aspects to grant a few listens. The singles are painfully overplayed. The Dandy Warhol's would be well advised to drop their arrogant attitude because it is definitely a factor in why many people dislike them. A lot of the more experimental and psychedelic tinged songs are enjoyable. Others are boring and meander aimlessly and have no purpose. 90's completest should definitely give this a listen.

I could see fans of The Verve, Brian Jonestown Massacre and fans some of psychedelic rock enjoying this. It's be best if you didn't research the band to much because a lot of what they say in interviews is very cringe worthy. The first 3rd or so of the album is pretty decent.

That was almost an articulate compliant, but youtube does rule. It hasn't given me any big problems, yet.

Dandy's were signed right after Everclear. The album did have a pretty fucked up flow, song order was kind of whack. I don't know what "Singles?" means.

what is the fucking deal with comments not going through? this happens to me like EVERY TIME i try to comment nowadays. IT SUCKS! i have to write shit like three or four times EVERY TIME i watch a video. it's so fucking annoying that all i'll say is that if some guy tripping balls were recording the byrds he'd be like, "where are the knobs? are you the byrds? am i ok?" haha - excellent review as always.
