ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - Family and friends welcome home Coast Guard crewmembers Saturday, Mar. 6, 2010, at Air Station Elizabeth City. Three of the men that were aboard an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter that went down near Salt Lake City return to their home base aboard an HC-130J Jayhawk aircraft. The three that returned were Cmdr. Patrick Shaw, 37, of Juneau, Alaska; Petty Officer 3rd Class Darren M. Hicks, 22, of Oroville, Wash.; and Petty Officer 3rd Class Edward Sychra, 26, of Blanchard, Idaho. The four men that were aboard the accompanying helicopter also returned.

Capt. John Hardin, commanding officer of Air Station Elizabeth City, the home base of the Jayhawk that crashed Wednesday in Wasatch County, shares how glad he is that the crewmembers have returned home.

  • I'm surprised that the aircraft is using a propeller engine and not a jet, why did they choose to install a propeller engine on a modern aircraft.

  • How was your little lifeguard plaque presentation last weekend Cappy? How pathetic was that? OMG I cant wait to see the pics from the presentation and the reception.. All those 165lb beer bellys with their medals for warding off imaginary enemies puffing out their little chests the best they can, pretending to be somebody.. Those pictures are going to be priceless!!

  • Hey liezke!

How long can you tread water????

  • Everyone knows, the coast guard is our weakest link. Sorry if the truth hurts guys and gals. You're really nothing more than volunteer fire fighters except they actually put out fires, we have yet to figure out what redeeming value the coast guard has. How about this, sit in your coast guard hanger, swill your draft beer and stop wasting our money crashing our stuff. I know it's old "hand me down" stuff but it's still OUR stuff. When we need ya, we'll let you know. Dont hold your breath.

  • Good to see you all back, fellas. Especially you, Pat. Take it easy, OK, Classmate?

  • GLAD to see you up and about, Pat, and all! God Bless the USCG!

    SEMPER PARATUS!

  • Semper Paratus!

  • Welcome Home! Thanks for your service!

  • I like how Darren and Pfaff are like 3 ft taller then everone else in the crowd.

  • good job guys/girls
