  • @Wolfen443 That`s right lanciers was present in all armies of Napoleon period. On begining They was recruted from Duchy of Warsaw and formed Polish Legion of the Vistula in Napoleon army. Some uhlan traditions after Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth has also Saxony wchich was in personal union with Poland. Later lanciers was formed also in Austria from Galician Poles, Prusia, Russia and other european countries.

  • @licicaviki, so they originated there, OK my bad. But, they bacame part of most european cavalry forces over time still.

  • @Wolfen443 Actually lanciers come from Polish uhlans. First units of uhlans appear in Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth before partitions of Poland in 1772. Uhlan regiments founded Aleksander Ułan-commander the Polish light cavalry regiment in the service of elective king of Poland - Augustus II the Strong. First units of uhlans appear after reforms of Polish-Lithuanian army in 1770 as national cavalary. Uhlan units was called lanciers on the west after Polish uhlans served under Napoleon.

  • Actually Lancers were traditional European Light Cavalry unirs used by all the countries & powers. The more famous ones are the Britsh, Polish, Russian, & German (Prussian & Austrian).

  • @Sowka1967 What You pointed out is essentially true (and thank You for that!), yet with one common mistake. Tatars where more descendants of various nomad Turkic peoples that joined Mongols - Kipchaks, Nogais, etc., than actual Mongols.

    Pozdrawiam!

  • I would say that the Polish and Hungarian hussars were better.

  • war without horses is just ugly

  • la mejor caballeria alemana 5/5

  • True, the Red Lancers were earlier somewhere... 0:45 I think.

  • It's an amazing show of uniforms and pictures!Thank you for Polish pictures and photos. This light cavalry units has its origin at the 2nd half of 18th century in Polish&Lithuanian Commonwealth. They were formed from the Tartars(grand&grand sons of the Mongols) who lived in Poland and Lithuania. The word "ulan" means"the brave".This word also point the descendands of the Gretat Khan-it's a kind of the aristocratic title. The third meaning of this word is for the red colour!Glory
