  • Wonderful!

  • Nice to see the whole film rather than just the musical numbers. Stunning colour on the then still new 3 strip Technicolor process, these shorts cost a lot to make.

  • wow what a great post - thanks so much :)

  • I'll bet Catalina hasn't changed that much. They have a party, "Buccaneer Days," held every fall which probably is a modern day version of this.

The studios really knew how to throw a party in those days.

  • It's even odder to see Lee Tracy in an MGM short in 1936. He'd been a big MGM star until the Mexican incident in 1934. (Check Wikipedia, let's just say it involves a drunken naked Lee, a need to urinate, a hotel balcony and a passing Mexican military parade below). LB Mayer was furious and sacked him instantly (he'd been filming 'Viva Villa).

I absolutely love this video, it's a glimpse of Paradise (the Hollywood kind with movie stars instead of angels).

  • I would love to know who posted this video because my father is in the band! It's so fun to see this after all these years. I would love to have a copy of this or better yet, see if there are more clips of him. Thank you for replying and posting this!

  • This must be great for anyone who's ever been to Catalina, makes me wonder how much has changed since this was taken.

Technicolor is the real star here.

    Thanks for sharing this short.

Errol Flynn in a MGM Movie, couldn't that start contracual disputes with Warners??? or maybe this kind of shoots didn't count.....

  • My Grandfather is in this!!!

  • Interesting to see the shot of Cary Grant and Randolph Scott sitting together in the audience. They were living together more or less openly as a couple at the time.

  • Perfection.
