@theshortladders Thanks for showing some common sense and optimism. Altoona reminds me of most towns with 50-100K people, but it seems the youth like to complain about things here. Altoona has some potential, and the best thing that can be done is bringing back the downtown.

@rddoc81 You'd be surprised the business that's still there. Old restaurants and stores downtown, the rail shops, Juniata silk mill, etc. Altoona really is like Anytown, USA at this point.

I never said Altoona was the worst place to live, but it's definitely not the best. California isn't the best place either. I like Santa Rosa, but yes there are problems there too. I don't have any video's or articles trying to convince people it is wonderful on the other hand. Altoona is a depressed Railroad town made up of mainly fast food restaurants. Yes there is some business, but not all that much stays there.

@rddoc81 California has its problems, too. Many places it costs an arm and a leg just for a one-bedroom apartment, other places are crime infested ghettos. Or there's a third option, suburbia, miles and miles of houses that all look the same. There's great places in California, of course, just like there's great places in Central PA. The truth is, there are other jobs, but you'd just have to look for them. I'm not saying Altoona is anything special, but it's not the worst place on Earth, either.

LMAO!!! Down below I didn't,t mean to say "woodie" watching the cheerleaders....although that is hilarious. I wrote Wopsie watching...then a comma, but my stupid spell check thing on my IPAD changed it to woodie for some reason..there is a liitle perv in IPAD

When I lived there the best things...were the mountains and seeing them everyday...then Prince Gallitzin, canoe creek, lakemont, horseshoe curve and I like the big cathedral, AAHSfootball games and the high school and library...hollidaysburg and those lookout rocks, woodie watching the cheerleaders at Keith athletic, that big pool over in juniata, the mall, and I loved the quarries up in dysart. Well now practically all those places suck...so I can't say how great it is anymore...but I used t

Altoona PA. Bringing together the lack of culture from small towns and the problems of big cities.

Altoona is a waste. It’s like the land before time I spent 20 years there before moving away to CA. check out the census data they lose like 3000 people 10 years. These weirdo’s decided to make a video about how wonderful it is. the truth is there are no jobs for anyone with more than a high school education unless its doctor, lawyer, teacher(standard jobs). the weather blows and there is no culture. There are however around 70 bars and enough fast food to cause a coronary.

@NWO41508 Change Sheetz to some other store and you just described 99.9% of cities/towns in America.
Altoona is a nice city, but the main problems with Altoona and other cities in this region are those who complain constantly about how awful they feel the city is, yet remain here their entire lives with a distorted picture of what "the outside world" is like and make no effort to change the city to their liking. Surprisingly, I heard the same things in Huntingdon and State College, the two other towns I have lived in, so it may be a Pennsylvania thing to wish to "get out" of wherever you are.

@rddoc81 I'm trying to find ANYONE who said it's 'the best'. I've lived all over the Eastern US and find Altoona to be very picturesque. The people are kind and considerate. I've lived in metro areas in which people wouldn't give you the time of day.
