A question raised by Margo MacDonald MPS to the Scottish Government on the subject of McKenzie Friends in the Scottish Courts

5. Margo MacDonald: To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will introduce the practice of allowing a McKenzies friend into law courts. (S3O-6781)

Petition PE1247 urges the Scottish Parliament to call on the Scottish Government to implement the facility of McKenzie Friends to the Scottish Courts.

England & Wales have had McKenzie Friends for 39 years, however the Scots legal profession have ensured the facility has not been allowed in Scotland. This petition, supported by consumer organisations such as Which?, and legal reform campaigners, seeks to end this exclusion, and allow party litigants in court, a right to have a McKenzie Friend with them when they so desire.
