1996 BMW 318 TDS Cold Start -5c

Just a cold start at about 9.20am after sitting overnight, it was hovering between -6 and -7 during the night, starts great with the new battery. Not bad for over 200,000 miles. Yes it sounds like a tractor, but that's because it's got a kind of improvised straight pipe made from various bits of pipe and it amuses me. The big knock/rattle you hear just after it fires up is the exhaust as it's a bit loose.

I started my engine when it was about -30 degrees (318i m43) =)

@GAHbl4 The coldest place i have ever been was finland at just about -25, it never gets much lower than maybe -15 in ireland during a really cold winter, last winter it was unusually cold and some places got to about -18 that's as low as it's been for years so sadly i can't test if cars will start in anything like -30

@HENVEY89 So do I. First frosty morning around here was this morning, so If it's the same again i'll do a (probably quite hard/smoky) cold start of a ford sierra 1.8 td. They do not like starting in the cold at all.

@HENVEY89 Sadly no frost this morning but still havn't started the sierra yet so i guess i'll just make one anyway starting it at 10 degrees after sitting all night. The battery is pathetic in it, half the size it should be so it may be a hard-ish and fairly smoky start
