Hard to see, but the alcometer shows 87% pure alcohol at room temperature ! This is a mate's double reflux still (Alambico, Alambique Alambic) just outside of Florence.... this alcohol is used for making Grappa and Lemoncello. Ha Ha ;-)

The difference between mass produced alcohol and small batch double reflux produced alcohol is it is almost a physical impossibilty to produce alcohol in large quantity without also producing "Fusil oils".
Fusil oils are a very similar chemical make up to methylated spirits and not good for you !
Methylated spirits get humans drunk, but the fusil oils are the main reason why homeless drunk people who drink meths loose their sight.

This is where the term "getting blind" came from.

Small batch double reflux still alcohol, with the fist 5 % of product is discarded (the lightest chemical element in this distilation process), means you will be consuming probably the most healthiest, pure non harming form of alcohol there is.
No fusil oils means no throat burn and no nasty hangover the next day.
Try it for yourself !

Peace to all, 21/12/2012.

  • It might say 87%, but you know that your spirits have to be at 60 degrees to get an actual reading. Beings that that just came out of the condensor, I'm guessing it's alot colder then 60 degrees. Just saying. Nice still though.

  • Hi Yonder 101 - is that 60 degrees Farenheit ? Don't know what that is in centegrade, but this still unlike others produces room temperature spirit at the outlet... it was 87% at room temp if that means anything ?

  • Double reflux still alcohol is wonderfully brilliant.

  • i have this exact same distiller, 87 is more likely the proof, not percentage. the maker even tells you that the best you can get is about 175 proof.

  • Yes, 60 degrees Farenheit. which is 15.555555555555557 degrees celcius. How in the world is it at room temperature already? That's interesting. Please tell me more. Room temperature should be aproximately 60 degrees farenheit. Is what I do though, is get a fish tank thermometer, and put it on the inside of a tall jug or something. Then once it is at the right temperature, I put the hydrometer in.
