Victor, as you know trust can be a challenging issue across national boundaries. We should have trusted the Russian leadership regarding Chechnya. After the Beslam atrocity it became obvious that Russia was fighting something truly evil. I can assure you that whatever sympathy the rebels hoped to garner was lost after that day. Hindsight is a painful teacher.
A church subjected to political authority is crippled. Holy scriptures were contraband in Russia. I know because I was aware of the requests for Bibles from within the USSR at throughout the eighties. Many people smuggled bibles into the USSR at great risk. Churches were turned into museums in the USSR.
oh really? and what about the USSR pacifying role? Before breaking with Israel after their aggressive war and after restoring the relations Russia brings much more balance supporting not only Arabic countries (financially, industrially, during long period, often without compensation) but also assuring Israel that it would be untouched. us policy is mostly destructive, caring only about jews and own bloody corporations. Besides, no Palestinian state is established thus far, despite of promises
seneca67 - what about Chechnya? western "friends" have been sponsoring several chechen separatist leaders, this cia tactics is well known in Latin America, Africa, Middle East. Any more questions?
You question is not neutral. It contains several false presuppositions. Stalin himself reinstalled Orthodox church in 1944. Although some churches have been destroyed after that and and material things have been confiscated, but the Church remained under the communist rule and those who believed - they were allowed to believe. That's why there are so many people in churches now - no one could prevent people from keeping religion in hearts. What's wrong?
I think you know why i punctuated as I did. It would appear that you are writing under false pretense. So, will you answer my question?
