I spin my 5 horse using a drill to lubricate the motor and make sure I put it together right so it don't explode!!! Electric motor runs @ approx. 1350 RPMs.

I noticed some noise with the valve train and found that there is basically no valve to lifter clearance that I can see. I will need to file the valve stems, as most rebuilt small engines require. Briggs recommends(.003"-.006")clearance.

Great Forum for Briggs 5 hp info!!!!

  • kool bore or i/c?

  • @hondayamahafan This one is a kool bore, but I'm bidding on an I/C motor I might rebuild soon.

  • how did you make your drill start?

  • @01jmaster I got an adapter, hex bit screw driver to 3/8 socket, from harbor freight.

  • I used to work on Horizontal 5's a lot; when you take them apart and take the Governor out and do a little tweaking around you can get these babies to turn up until they start missing due to not enough air/fuel or they just simply fly apart - I had one that would turn 10,000 rpms with an oversized carb!!!!

  • @ash4100 When you get em for cheap, it's easier to accept when you brake em.
