@PAKTEC2012 Actually, I do know what I'm talking about. The Green Genius "biodegradable" bag has no responsible end-of-life scenario for it to biodegrade -- we don't want things to biodegrade in landfills, where they produce harmful greenhouse gas emissions. We want certified COMPOSTABLE bags (ASTM D6400, BPI approved) that will help us divert organic wastes (yard trimmings and food waste) from landfills and incinerators.
@rcyepsen Quite frankly you have no idea what you are talking about. The additive used in the Green Genius product does not modify the original polymer structure in anyway UNLIKE an OXO-degradable material like EPI additives or starch based additives, which I might add WILL NOT biodegrade in landfill or anearobic environments which is where they end up BECAUSE no industrial compost operations accept general plastic waste due to contamination. This bag will also biodegrade in aerobic sites.
@rcyepsen Oh cool thanks. I found out I want to use ASTM D6400 standard bags. Will look at that site. I am growing Catnip and want to use a bag that will break down in a compost. Has been hard to find such bags but so cool that we might see an end to most plastic bags. ;-)
@JimmyJackFarm You won't see this bag break down into compost, because they are not compostable. They are conventional PE trash bags with an additive that causes it to eventual fragment, breaking into tiny pieces of plastic film. This product is even illegal to market in California. If you are looking for compostable bags, go to w w w . b p i w o r l d . o r g
