You do realize that the Taiwanese government themselves have acknowledged that they ARE China. Not a PART of China, they ARE China. This may seem a bit odd, so I'll explain.

This is an issue of the historical separation between two ideologies and political points of view, not geography; The Communist party, and the Gong Min Dong Party (BOTH of which originated in mainland China. After the communist party won, the Gong Min Dong moved to Taiwan to escaped persecution.

This is equivalent to the Union and the Confederates fighting for control of America during the American civil war. The Confederates eventually lost. But if the remnants of the confederates ever escaped to an island off the US coast, would anyone argue that they are not part of the US?

The confederates would continue to claim that they are the US and that America rightfully belonged to them, just as the Union would claim. And BOTH would be right.
