This speed painting took me about 2 and a half hours to do. So, it was a rather simple and straightforward process. I was testing a method for making a vector portrait in Photoshop based on a photo, and I'm pleased with the result.
Here's the process outline:
- Have a reference photo.
- Posterize a copy of the photo to 7 levels or so.
- Using the pen tool, trace after each color level of the posterized picture, and then fill the selection with a color from the original photo.
- I went through about 15 or 16 levels of color from black to light tan.
- Afterwards, I added hair strokes using a faded brush.
- Finally: add a background photo. Mine is of nighttime bokeh of city lights.
I'm pretty pleased with the end style, and I would recommend this tecnique and I would do it again.
The picture that I did is of the Korean actor, Won Bin, in the movie Ajusshi or The Man from Nowhere, a favorite Asian movie of mine. The song is also from that movie. I think Won Bin does a brilliant job in the movie, and I love his character. This promotional photo of the movie is really poignant to me because it shows a tough man's vulnerability when confronted with loss of dear things to him.
nice speed art iv never seen something done like that. you could of just used the polygon lasso tool and cut him out and then use the clone tool to get ride of the text or if you have cs5 use the healing tool to get ride of the text but ill like and sub just for the hard work you done.
