Scum - White Dragon

Scum was a Finnish Death metal band , founded in Parikkala in 1990. 1992 band released it's first demo "Extreme Analcore Torment" . They got labeled to Sickness records and released a single "Voyage in the Depths of Insanity/ Macabre Moors of Morgoth" . In this stage, the lyrical style of band seemed to have moved from sheer gore and death to fantasy. The single helped them get signed to German Black Mark Records and they recorded and released their first full-length "Mother Nature" in 1994. The next full-length of the band "Purple Dreams & Magic Poems" was recorded in Tico-Tico ( Shadows of the Past / Slumber of Sullen Eyes ) Studios and produced with assistance of Ahti Kortelainen. The full-length was released in 1995. The band also managed to record a third album, but it was never released.

Out of all Finnish old school dm bands this is one of the few that had very good and clear production. Now personally I'm a fan of both : the really grisly,raw and morbid sounding production and this type of production. Demigod had the best production on "Unholy Domain" but that kind of production wouldn't fit on this. I mean this has keyboards so it would be so fuckin stupid to go "burzum" on this.

Nah. All the Tico-Tico Studios works had pretty decent quality. Atleast the full-lengths did.

Ofcourse, you should always strive to get the clearest possible sound, especially in music like this, but yes, the raw , grisly and intentionally unbalanced production sounds better for more radical music and nostalgic purposes.

My pleasure. What a shame, this gem isn't remembered as well as some other cult collectables such as Purtenance and Convulse. Or atleast it seems like it. Well composed and original stuff for it's time, but sadly, most likely over-shadowed by Sentenced's "Amok" release of the same year.

I've actually tried to bid "Mother Nature" from eBay twice. Failed on both times. I will still keep watching that gem from there in the future.

Of course the Tico-Tico ones had good quality but only a handful recorded there. The finest of the scene recorded there so to say. Did Xysma or Disgrace record there?
