An absorption refrigerator used in an RV operates differently than the typical household version, it actually draws heat out of the unit! This video provides an overview with graphic animation of the process.

  • OK, so I want to purchase a solar powered unit for a Camper build I am doing... If ANYONE can point me to a place where I can just purchase the guts of an Absorption Refrigeration system I would be most thankful. (I already know about SolarDanzer).

  • amazing invention like the hammond organ

  • How can I make one for home use?

  • "Cold" is the absence of heat, I believe, is a bit more than just a theory.

  • Actually, an electric (compression) refrigerator operates the same, in terms of the evaporation process. In the compression system, heat from the surroundings (freezer or refrigerator cabinet) boils (evaporates) the liquid refrigerant. The vapor is removed from the evaporator, taking heat with it. This is the same process which occurs in the absorption system; the liquid ammonia boils as a result of the heat in the cabinet; the vapor is removed from the evaporator, carrying heat with it.
